This is Hallmark’s first Lionel boxcar since 2005; much of the series, which started in 1996, has focused on passenger trains. This is a great companion to the model of a red 2-8-2 Mikado-type steam locomotive. Unlike the 2005 Pennsylvania boxcar, the doors do not open. The deep green sides are adorned with the words “Seasons Greetings” along with a Christmas decorated drum and horn, and musical notes. The doors, top, and ends are bright red. Few real-life boxcars are this colorful! The lettering and paint is well done.

The ornament is about 3.5 inches long. The box description reads in part: “Let it snow all night – in this Holiday Boxcar, cargo is protected from the elements and sure to arrive on time. Merry Christmas to all – and to all, great railroad memories!”

This ornament is item #QXI1095 and retailed for $14.50 in the U.S.
